Clark Park Farmers’ Market

Posted by Samantha Lazar on July 2, 2009

Sick of hibernating all winter, eating canned food and potato after potato? Hopefully your wintertime culinary experience wasn’t that bad, but no doubt you’re thinking fresh now that summer is upon us. Swing by the Clark Park Farmer’s Market to satisfy that yearning for fresh, healthy and organic local goodness.

The market is gearing up for summer, and a recent visit found towering heaps of brightly colored produce – yellow zucchini, fuchsia beets, crimson radishes, rich red tomatoes and of course greens, greens, greens (asparagus, peas, herbs, and leaves of all sorts). In addition to the fresh veggies, sold by the farmers themselves, the market also features an array of other local organic products, including honeys and jams, fudge, and delicious baked goods.

If you’re struck by a veggie-craving midweek, you can visit the market on Thursday afternoons from 3 – 7, when produce vendors line the 43rd Street edge of the park. But hit it up on Saturday morning for the true market experience: it triples in size and combines with a flea market. You can mix with dog walkers and frolicking kids while you fill your bag with fresh veggies and peruse stalls of handmade jewelry, clothing, soap, and more.
