Madrid Café

If you’re in the neighborhood of 45th and Locust and looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch, or to sit and get some work done or chat with friends, think of Madrid Café. The small café opened just a few months ago and is pretty bare-bones, but it gets the job done.
I was told that people come in mostly for breakfast, but I stopped in for lunch instead and was pleasantly surprised. I had a Honey Dijon Chicken Breast and Brie panini ($6) – all their meats are Halal – which was made fresh and came out crispy, hot and melty, just as a panini should be. I also tried the Spanish Rice with Beans, which was a huge portion for just $2. It was hearty, flavorful and warm, and could be a meal in itself.
If you need your coffee fix Madrid Café’s brews are passable, but if you’re smart go for a specialty tea from their long list instead. The small café has checkers and chess sets, a flat screen T.V., and free wifi, making it perfect for chilling with friends or catching up on some work in addition to offering up breakfast or lunch on the go.
