The Last Word Bookshop: A Bookworm’s Paradise

Posted by Samantha Lazar on September 17, 2009

The Last Word is one of the best bookstores in the city. It sells only used books, and the shelves are lined with meticulously organized titles (by section and author), so you can always hone in on what you’re looking for – even if you can’t find a particular title. On the flip side, though, you might just find that out-of-print book you gave up looking for 3 years ago! The selection is truly eclectic, but vast enough to offer many volumes on every subject, from academic to classic to esoteric.

Hand-written signs, stacks of books on the floor, and tables and chairs for reading give the store something of a dusty, cozy feel, despite the bright lights and long aisles. The adorable bookstore cat helps, too, as he endlessly stalks the front windows and draws in visitors.

In addition to having books you won’t find anywhere else, and at really good prices (they’re all used, after all!), The Last Word also has helpful staff who can find any title in a spilt second, but won’t pester you if you’re just browsing. They’re also happy to buy books from people. So before tossing out that trunk of old tomes, swing by and see if they’re interested. Or stop in the next time you’re in the area with time to kill – you’re bound to find more books that you want to buy than your arms can carry home.
